Bilbao is an incredible city to get lost. In the following list prepared by our bcoolers team we show you seven activities to do on your trip to the city. From losing yourself in its streets to visit the Guggenheim Museum. This is only a small advance of the most essential touristic points of interest of Bilbao. Remember our bcool_bilbao is in the neighbourhood of Bilbao La Vieja, another area to visit and discover the those “cool” corners that we like so much.
The Guggenheim Museum disegned by Frank O. Gehry is its self a work of art. His exhibitions of modern art are magnifique. There are permanent ones like Richard Serra’s Matter of Time and Temporals. Whatever the exposure during your trip you will enjoy for sure.
Around the museum you will find works such as Puppy, the famous dog made of natural flowers: Tulips, The Fountain of Fire or The Spider.
Las 7 calles. Stroll through the Casco Viejo de Bilbao is a true delight. Get lost in its cobbled streets full of shops and places to eat pintxos. Sit in the Plaza Nueva and savor the atmosphere that is lived with a txacolí and a good pintxo. (Photo Tomás Fano via Go Euro).
Its Architecture. We have already talked about the Guggenheim Museum but there is much more, such as the Zubizuri Bridge or Calatrava Bridge that joins the two sides of the Bilbao estuary. The Isozaki towers, the Iberdrola Tower, the Norman Foster or Fosteritos metro stations, and the Mercado de la Ribera with its stained glass windows and modernist decoration.
And of course, we also reserve time to get out of gear. You can start with the pintxos and continue with the party in one of its pubs, to end up having a drink in places like Sir Winston Churchill Pub, Abbey of the Gin & Tonic or Alambique. And if you like live music and a good environment Shake! Bilbao is your site.
Another option is to walk through the Nervión estuary or if you are more daring you can do it in kayak. There are several places where they organize a tour of the estuary seeing the most emblematic sites of the city.
Oh, and they also organize night outings, of course a very original way of seeing Bilbao. Going for a walk with the best views of Bilbao from the Mirador de Artxanda, which you can climb on a funicular. Take your camera and take the best panoramic view of the city.
Visit the Museum of Fine Arts in a beautiful building with large permanent works. Their temporary exhibitions are fantastic too and when you leave you can rest in the Doña Casilda Park. Everything a luxury. So supertravelers, Bilbao is your city !! Photo Sir Winston Churchill Pub Jan Kraus.
